Sweetness of Life









Hey darlings;
I got nothing to post much. Dear is in Pavi singing karaoke.. Hehe. And he promised to sing on our marriage day. LOL. So far away. So how is every one? Good?

~ I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.

This is another story: Second Honeymoon Magic

"Alex," I squealed, "the tickets came." The manilla envelope I held contained the itinerary for our second honeymoon-a cruise to the Virgin Islands. "That's nice," he mumbled, absorbed in the Saturday morning paper. I strolled over to the love seat, plopped down, and spread the envelope's contents on my lap. Alex stayed focused on the business section. I glanced at the brochure, reading the ship's itinerary out loud. He ignored me and sipped his coffee. I pretended not to notice the scowl on his face. His disheartening response was one of the reason I wanted this vacation. We had married ten years ago. At our wedding, Alex bragged about having lots of children. We searched for the right house with extra bedrooms. Then we started trying to conceive, but I didn't get pregnant. I finally consulted a physicial, and later even Alex gave in some tests. When the doctor informend us there'd never be any children, I saw Alex flinch.

This reality took a toll on our marriage, although he said he didn't blame me. But he grew quiter each time a coworker, friend, or relative welcomed a baby into their lives. I suggested adoption, but he wouldn't discuss it. Nine years had passed, and these last few months we'd hardly spoken except argue. I planned to change all that on our seven-day cruise. The ship was scheduled to depart the following Friday, and I purchased a wardrobe to inspire him. By walking four miles every day and paying special attention to my diet, I even lost the ten pounds I'd gained over the years.

When we first met, he used to compliment me on an expensive perfume I wore. So I splurged and purchased a bottle. I tried to think of everything to make this special for us. I needed to believe this cruise would improve our relationship. On Thursday afternoon, I hummed as I packed. Alex's suitcase was propped next to the bed, empty. The telephone rang. It was Alex. "Victoria, something's came up... Jackson quit today. We're shorthanded. So I can't leave tomorrow." "But, Alex, can't someone cover up? It's our second honeymoon. We planned this months ago." I bit my bottom lip. "The boss needs me. It's a great chance for me to show him my stuff. So don't wait up, I'm pulling a double." He hung up. Prickles stirred on my neck while tears strung my eyes. Depressed, I washed the dishes and folded the last load of laundry. I went to bed crying.

Alex crept in beside me after midnight. That morning when I awakened, he had already gone. A scribbled note sat on the table. It read "Have fun. Alex". I dialed his office to give him one last chance and heard a woman's cheery voice. An icy fear tugged my heart. "Alex Montgomery." "I just wanted to say good-bye, unless....." "Have a good time. Lots of women go alone. You'll make some friends. If things ease up here, I'll meet up with you." As he said good-bye, I heard giggles in the background, My throat tightened. Was he having an affair? He had acted distant the last few eeks. I drove myself to the dock, wrestled with my suitcase and joined the line. "Mrs.Montgomery, there are two passengers listed in cabin 443, will the other party be arriving before the ship departs?" "No. My husband had an emergency at work. I'm going alone." "We have eight hundred passengers on board. Enjoy the Caribbean, Mrs.Montgomery." "Thanks."

The first night, I met a man named Paul seated next to me in the dining room. He said he had a small business and was a widower. Everything about him seemed first-class. We ordered the seven coursed dinner and had lots of time to get acquainted. As the evening progressed, I realized he was flirting with me. Alex said I'd make friends; wouldn't he be surprised! Paul and I toured the island together. His enchanting attention helped ease my unhappiness, but I longed for Alex. Paul lifted my spirits, but only as a friend. The next evening, Paul accompanied me to show in the ballroom. Afterward, I planned on telling him that I couldn't see him anymore. I smiled briefly before the lights dimmed; he'd make some lucky woman a ncie husband.

The ballroom surrounded a curved center stage. The orchestra started and several costume dancers whirled across the floor. The spotlight illuminated a magician dressed in a black suit and cape. His quick routine brought a flurry of oohs and aahs, and loud clapping. For the last trick of the evening, he included his slim assistant. She climbed into a cube-shaped box; closed the lid and padlocked it. He said a few words, waved his wand, and then reopened the box. It was empty. "Is there a Mrs.Victoria Montgomery in the audience?" the magician asked. His voice echoed through the ballroom. I raised my hand and squirmed in my seat. Paul turned and stared at me. "I'm married," I whispered. "I planned on telling you after the show, sorry.". "So am I,"he answered. Paul blushed and slid out of his seat, then escaped down the aisle.

"Please,stand, this trick is dedicated to you." The magician waved his wand over the cube and said "Abracadabra". He released the locks and opened the lid. A tall husky man popped out. Not just any man; it was Alex! Adrealine rushed through me. The magician announced, "Surprise! Happy tenth anniversary to Mr. and Mrs.Montgomery!" Everyone clapped. Alex jogged to join me in the third row. He settled into the empty seat, a wide smile on his face. He kissed me tenderly. "What happened? How did you.... ?" "Poof, I'm here. It took me two days to get a flight. We still have five days. If you let me, I promise to make them perfect." "I thought you had work and impress the boss." "Forget the boss. When I found your ring with my ticket, I thought I'd lost you. Nothing's worth that." "Things have to be different, Alex. You can't shut me out anymore." "Okay, okay. Let's start over. All I know is I missed you."

Alex withdrew my wedding band from his pocket and asked, "Will you marry me again-,fine lady?" "Yes," I whispered, and he slipped the ring on my finger. I waved my hand and said "Abracadabra, you're eternally under my spell, Mr.Montgomery." "There's no place I'd rather be. And we have an appointment to fill out an adoption application when we get home." "Wow," I said. The second honeymoon magic I'd wished for was really coming true.
